Greek Music Policy under the Dictatorship of General Ioannis Metaxas (1936–1941)
This paper is the most comprehensive study of the Metaxas regime’s musical policy. It explains how music was utilized by the 4th of August regime as a propaganda tool and how some kinds of underground music was forbidden, especially rembetiko music. It also portrays the regime’s censorship system towards music.
